It’s time for jam. Yay!!

Jam is probably the easiest thing to bottle if you’ve never done it before, it’s also a great way to get your feet wet if you want to start learning to preserve your food.

I had a bunch of strawberries in the freezer from the last time that they were on sale at the grocery store. I washed them, sliced them in half and put them in gallon freezer bags. You could also use for from your garden, or just buy frozen fruit.

I had some extra time today and made a batch quickly so that we’d have jam for winter.

I always use MCP fruit pectin, I consistently get good results. Follow their batch instructions exactly and you can’t go wrong!

Make sure your bottles are clean, have all of the ingredients measured and ready in separate bowls. Jam happens fast and you won’t have time to do anything while it’s cooking.

What I used:

Ball or Kerr jars and bands.

Brand new sealing lids.

Good Cook wooden spoon.

Hex Clad pot.

Presto pressure cooker. (I used for bottling the jars)

Bottle lifter for canning.

Magnet lid grabber.

C&H sugar.

Frozen fruit.

Fresh lemon juice.

👆 These are all items that I acquired later in life. You definitely don’t have to have them to make jam.

Enjoy!!
